About Us

Please take a few moments to get to know the people behind Laflin Limited.

President & CEO

Rick Ader founded Laflin Limited in March, 2005. Having spent nearly a decade assisting start-up to mid-sized companies in the transfer of technologies in the area of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) from the United States to Japan, Rick set up Laflin Limited to make the technology transfer in both directions to & from Japan & the Western world a more productive and prosperous business endeavor.

From 2000-04, Rick was the General Manager of Sales & Operations for the Japan and Rest of Asia territories at Monterey Design Systems. Prior to Monterey, he held various management and engineering positions at Summit Design and Toshiba (Japan). Bilingual in Japanese and English, Rick received concurrent BSc degrees in electrical and computer engineering, and computer science from the University of Wisconsin.


Solutions Architect

Tim Baldwin has worked in the semiconductor and EDA industries for 15 years. Tim is largely responsible for the corporate strategy of Laflin. Tim contributes in the areas of product and technical marketing and promotion and technical sales for new EDA and IP technologies. In addition, he provides services in product specification and testing and documentation and technical writing. Prior to joining Laflin, Tim was director of the product engineering team for Pyxis Technology, Inc., responsible for developing and driving product requirements and specifications, testing methodologies, and use models. Before joining Pyxis, he served as Senior Technical Marketing Manager at Magma Design Automation. Tim has also held positions as Director of Product Engineering at Monterey Design Systems, Technical Marketing Manager at Cadence Design Systems and Applications Engineer at Ambit Design Systems. Prior to joining the EDA industry, Tim was a Product Development Engineer at Advanced Micro Devices.

Japan Business Development

Kazuhiro Honjo has over 18 years of EDA software sales in the Japan semiconductor market. He brings a vast amount of experience to the Laflin Japan sales effort, having delivered on such campaigns as promotion of ModelSim® of Mentor Graphics to become the sign-off simulator at NEC Electronics, and making multi-million dollar sales of Virtual Silicon libraries to Japanese semiconductor companies, while at Soliton Systems K.K.. He also has experience in the past decade of sales and promotion of Silicon Compiler Systems, Compass Design Automation, Summit Design, and Monterey Design Systems, all successful EDA companies with 100s of users in Japan.

Kazuhiro is also the founder of his own company, Nyquist Inc. of Japan, a company that provides aid to hi-tech, overseas start-ups through introductions to the Japan semiconductor and consumer electronics market. Kazuhiro has a Bachelor's Degree in Management of Technology from the Kinki University in Osaka, Japan.


Taiwan Business Development

Joseph Ku has been working over 18 years in sales and field application engineering for EDA, IP, and design service companies in the Taiwan semiconductor market. His business accomplishments include successful introductions of Model Tech (Modelsim®), Summit Design, Library Technologies and Virtual Chips into the Taiwan market and an establishment of significant customer base for each.

At Laflin, Joseph is responsible for business development in Taiwan. Joseph has a Master's Degree in Electro-Optical Engineering from National ChiaoTung University, Taiwan, and a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering from National Ocean University, Taiwan.


Customer Engineering

Larry Ader has worked in research and development positions with several computer engineering and EDA companies over the past twenty years. His background includes experience in hardware design, performance analysis, and design verification. More recently, while working with Cray Research, Innoveda, and Provis Corporation, he has gained significant experience in the development of EDA tools such as logic and fault simulators, design debug tools and code coverage analysis tools.

With Laflin Limited, he is responsible for software installation, licensing, customer training and support. His purpose is to quickly get customers beyond any problems they may have with tools that Laflin Limited provide. His secondary responsibilities include computer, network, and e-mail administration and website development. Larry possesses an MSEE and BSEE, both from the University of Wisconsin.
